Your business
These details are typed once and stay on this device for every job. The logo is printed on the PDF and the picture.
The headings, the sums, the date and the amount in words are printed in this language. What you type is printed as you typed it.
No lines yet. Tap a job above, or add a line of your own.
Your rate card
Every rate you type on a line is remembered here for this trade, on this device, and filled in the next time you add that line. Change a rate here to change what is filled in from now on.
Nothing yet — rates appear here as you type them on your lines.
This prints a simple bill with the tax as one line. It is not laid out as a formal tax invoice, such as a GST tax invoice. If you are registered for tax, ask your accountant what your invoice must carry.

When the work is done, turn this quotation into a bill. The lines and rates stay as they are, and you can still change them — for extra work, or for materials at their real cost.
{link} becomes the link to the paper.

Measure each run of wire or pipe and add it here. The sum adds them up, puts your spare allowance on top, and counts the coils or lengths to buy.
What you saw on the visit, room by room. These notes are for you: they print on the Materials list, never on the quotation or the bill.
These sums only add up the sizes you type. They do not choose a wire size, a pipe size, a breaker or a mix — that is your call and your local code's.

What a painter's quotation lists
This page opens on the Painter trade, with 14 common jobs and 14 common materials ready to tap.
| Kind of line | Ready-made lines | Unit it starts with |
|---|---|---|
| Surface work, by area | Interior walls, ceiling, exterior walls, putty, primer coat, scraping and sanding, texture wall, waterproof coating, wood polish | sq ft |
| By the piece | Door painting or polish, window and grill painting | nos |
| Whole jobs | Crack filling, gate painting | job |
| Day work | Painter day work | day |
| Materials | Interior and exterior emulsion, wall primer, putty, enamel, wood primer, thinner, waterproofing compound, crack filler, sandpaper, rollers and brushes, masking tape, stainer, cover sheets | litre, kg, nos, set, roll |
Working out the area
Painting is priced by the square foot or square metre of wall, so the measuring matters as much as the rate. Under Job-site sums, open Paint area and type the room's length, width and wall height.
| Step | Example: a room 12 × 10 ft, walls 9 ft high | Area |
|---|---|---|
| Walls: twice (length + width), times height | 2 × (12 + 10) × 9 | 396 sq ft |
| Take off doors and windows | 1 door of 21 sq ft, 2 windows of 16 sq ft | −53 sq ft |
| Add the ceiling, if ticked | 12 × 10 | +120 sq ft |
| Area to paint | 463 sq ft | |
| Two coats | 463 × 2 | 926 sq ft |
The door and window sizes start at 21 and 16 square feet (1.9 and 1.5 square metres when you measure in metres). Change them to the real sizes. Some painters do not deduct openings at all, to pay for the cutting-in around them; if that is your way, leave the door and window counts empty.
Add the area as a painting line puts the area on the quotation as a labour line; you type your rate. If you type what one litre covers in one coat — the figure printed on the tin — the sum also gives the litres. In the example, at 100 square feet a litre, two coats need about 9.3 litres. Add the paint as a material puts that on the quotation too. The tool has no coverage figure of its own.
One rate, or a line for each stage
A single rate for “putty, primer and two coats” is quick to read. A line for each stage — scraping, putty, primer, paint — shows the customer where the money goes, and lets you leave out a stage for walls that are already sound. The rate for each line is remembered, so both ways are fast after the first quotation.
Lines that are often forgotten
- Preparation. Scraping old paint, filling cracks and sanding take time. They are separate lines in the list.
- Doors, windows and grills. They are not wall area. Count them by the piece.
- Scaffolding. For exterior work, hire is a real cost. “Scaffolding is not included” is ready in the notes if the customer arranges it.
- Furniture. “Furniture is to be moved or covered by the customer” saves a morning.
- Measured billing. If the quotation is an estimate from a plan, add the note “Area is measured at the site. The bill follows the measured area”.
From the quotation to the bill
When the customer agrees, tap Accepted at the top so the job shows as agreed in Your jobs. When the work is finished, tap Make the bill for this job. The bill takes the next bill number and today's date, and keeps every line, so you can change the area to the measured one before you send it. Record each payment under Money received; the bill then prints what has been received and the balance due, and the Receipt paper states the amount in figures and in words. The full steps, the worked example of the sums and the ways to send the paper are in the main guide.
How do I calculate the painting area of a room?
Add the length and the width, double it, and multiply by the wall height to get the walls. Take off the doors and windows and add the ceiling if it is being painted. The Paint area sum on this page does it from the sizes you type: a room 12 by 10 feet with 9-foot walls, one door and two windows comes to 343 square feet of wall, or 463 with the ceiling.
How much paint do I need?
It depends on the paint. Type the coverage printed on the tin — the area one litre covers in one coat — and the sum divides the area, multiplied by the number of coats, by that figure. The tool has no coverage figure of its own.
Should I deduct doors and windows?
It is your choice. The sum takes them off when you type how many there are. Some painters leave them in to cover the extra work of painting around them; to do that, leave the door and window counts empty.
Can I quote in square metres?
Yes. Tap Metres at the top of Job-site sums. The sizes are then in metres and the line added to the quotation is in sq m.
