    Your rate card

Every rate you type on a line is remembered here for this trade, on this device, and filled in the next time you add that line. Change a rate here to change what is filled in from now on.

        Job-site sums

These sums only add up the sizes you type. They do not choose a wire size, a pipe size, a breaker or a mix — that is your call and your local code's.

        What an electrician's quotation lists

This page opens on the Electrician trade. Its list has 15 common jobs and 16 common materials, and a tap adds any of them as a line.

Kind of lineReady-made linesUnit it starts with
Wiring, counted by the pointLight point, fan point, 5 A socket point, 15 A power point, AC point, geyser pointpoint
Fitting, counted by the pieceCeiling fan, light fitting, switchboard, distribution board, MCB / RCCBnos
Whole jobsInverter wiring, earthing, meter board workjob
        Call-outsFault finding and repairvisit
MaterialsWire in four sizes, conduit pipe, bends and boxes, switches, sockets, modular plates, MCB, RCCB, distribution board, lamps, fan, tape, sundriescoil, length, nos, roll, lot

The wire sizes in the list are only names to bill by. The tool does not say which size a circuit needs; that is for you and the wiring rules where you work.

By the point, by the job, or by the day

Most house wiring is quoted by the point, because the customer can count points on the plan and you can count them on the wall. Put the number of points as the quantity and your rate for one point as the rate. If your point rate includes the wire and conduit, say so in the notes and leave those materials off. If it is labour only, add the materials as their own lines, so the customer sees both subtotals.

For a small repair, a lump sum is clearer: leave the quantity empty and type the price as the rate. For work whose size nobody can know until the wall is opened, a visit line for finding the fault, with a note that the repair is quoted after it, saves an argument later.

        Lines that are often forgotten

        Adding up the wire

Under Job-site sums, open Wire and pipe lengths. Type each run as you measure it — “board to kitchen, 12”, “kitchen ring, 8.5, × 2” — and the spare you want on top. With the length of one coil typed in, it tells you how many coils to buy, and Add it as a material puts that on the quotation. It adds lengths; it does not pick the size of the wire.

From the quotation to the bill

When the customer agrees, tap Accepted at the top so the job shows as agreed in Your jobs. When the work is finished, tap Make the bill for this job. The bill takes the next bill number and today's date, and keeps every line, so extra points the customer asked for on the day can be added before you send it. Record each payment under Money received; the bill then prints what has been received and the balance due, and the Receipt paper states the amount in figures and in words. The full steps, the worked example of the sums and the ways to send the paper are in the main guide.

        Questions
How do I quote house wiring by the point?

Tap Light point wiring, Fan point wiring and the other point lines, type the number of points as the quantity and your price for one point as the rate. The quotation multiplies them and adds the lines up. Your point rates are remembered for the next quotation.

Does the tool tell me which wire size or MCB to use?

No. The list has wire sizes and breakers as names you can bill for, but the tool never chooses one. Sizing a circuit is your job under the wiring rules where you work.

Should materials be on the electrician's quotation or separate?

Either works. If your point rate includes wire and conduit, write that in the notes. If it is labour only, add the materials as lines; the paper then prints one subtotal for labour and one for materials, and the Materials paper gives you a shopping list without prices.

Can I charge a visit fee for fault finding?

Yes. The line Fault finding and repair starts with the unit visit. Put your call-out charge as the rate, and add a note that the repair itself is quoted once the fault is found.
