Customer and job

The headings, the sums, the date and the amount in words are printed in this language. What you type is printed as you typed it.

    Your rate card

Every rate you type on a line is remembered here for this trade, on this device, and filled in the next time you add that line. Change a rate here to change what is filled in from now on.

Nothing yet — rates appear here as you type them on your lines.

      Bill and payments

When the work is done, turn this quotation into a bill. The lines and rates stay as they are, and you can still change them — for extra work, or for materials at their real cost.

        Job-site sums

These sums only add up the sizes you type. They do not choose a wire size, a pipe size, a breaker or a mix — that is your call and your local code's.

        What a handyman's bill lists

This page opens on the Handyman / other trade, with 15 common jobs and 14 common materials ready to tap.

A trade that is not on the list

This is also the page for any work the other six trades do not cover: a welder, a glass fitter, a gardener, a cleaner, a pest-control visit, a mobile mechanic. Three things make it yours:

        Pricing small jobs

Small work is priced in three ways, and one bill can mix them.

        WayHow to type itSuits
A price for each jobQuantity 3, unit nos, your price for oneMounting three shelves, changing two locks
By the hourQuantity 2.5, unit hour, your hourly rateA list of odd jobs done in one visit
A visit charge plus the workOne line “Inspection visit”, then a line for each jobCall-outs where the travel is part of the cost

A quantity can have a decimal, so two and a half hours is 2.5. If you charge for each hour started, type the whole number and add the note “Hourly work is charged for each hour started”, which is ready in the list of notes for this trade. The other ready note is that the visit charge is payable even if no work is taken up.

        Materials you bring

Screws, plugs, sealant and brackets are small, and they are the first thing left off a bill. The line “Screws and wall plugs” has the unit lot for one round figure. Anything bought for the job — a lock, a curtain rod — is a material line at the price you paid or the price you charge.

Bill and receipt on the spot

For work finished in one visit there is no need for a quotation. Add the lines, tap Make the bill for this job, and share the PDF. When the customer pays, tap Fill in the balance and Add payment, switch the paper to Receipt and share that too. The job is marked Paid and stays in Your jobs with the customer's name and phone.

For regular customers — a landlord, a shop, a housing society — tap Copy on an old job to start a new one with the same lines.

From the quotation to the bill

When the customer agrees, tap Accepted at the top so the job shows as agreed in Your jobs. When the work is finished, tap Make the bill for this job. The bill takes the next bill number and today's date, and keeps every line, so anything extra the customer asked for on the day can be added before you send it. Record each payment under Money received; the bill then prints what has been received and the balance due, and the Receipt paper states the amount in figures and in words. The full steps, the worked example of the sums and the ways to send the paper are in the main guide.

        Questions
Can I use this if my trade is not in the list?

Yes. Choose Handyman / other, change What you do under Your business to your own trade, and add your own lines with + Labour line and + Material line. Each line you price is remembered and joins the list for next time.

How do I bill by the hour?

Add the line Hourly work, type the number of hours as the quantity — 2.5 for two and a half — and your hourly rate as the rate. The amount is the two multiplied.

Can I make a bill without making a quotation first?

Yes. Add the lines and tap Make the bill for this job straight away. The job still has a quotation number, but you only send the bill.

How do I charge a visit fee and the work separately?

Add Inspection visit as one line with your visit charge, then a line for each job done. The bill lists them one under the other and adds them up.
