Doing two jobs in a row
Each tab works on the file you give it and hands you a download. To do a second job, load that download into the next tab. Three chains come up again and again:
- Photos of a document for an online form: Merge the photos into one PDF, then Compress it to the form's size limit.
- Sign one page of a long document: Split out the page, Sign it, and Merge it back if the whole document is wanted.
- Join files and tidy the result: Merge them, then open the merged file in the editor to rotate a sideways page or drag pages into a new order.
What happens to your file
Your browser reads the file from your device, the page works on it there, and the result is saved through your browser's ordinary download. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload to wait for and no copy of your document anywhere else. Nothing is kept either: there is no account and no list of recent files, and closing the tab discards everything. The line under the tabs confirms this once the PDF engine has loaded.
What these tools do not do
- Text recognition (OCR). A scanned page stays a picture. Its words cannot be made selectable, and in PDF to Word a scanned page arrives as a picture.
- Passwords. They neither add a password to a PDF nor remove one. A protected PDF should be unlocked before it is merged, split, signed or converted.
- Certificate signatures. Sign places a picture of your handwritten signature. It does not make a certificate-based digital signature.
- Other conversions. PDF to Word is the only conversion out of PDF, and pictures are the only thing converted into PDF. There is no PDF to JPG, PDF to Excel or Word to PDF.
Free online PDF tools — merge, split, compress, convert and sign
ManyHand PDF Tools do the everyday PDF jobs right in your browser. Merge several PDFs into one file, or turn JPG, PNG and WebP pictures into a PDF. Split a PDF or extract just the pages you need. Compress a PDF to a size you choose in MB or KB. Convert a PDF to an editable Word document. Add a signature by drawing it or uploading an image and placing it on the page. For changing text, filling forms and rearranging pages there is a full PDF editor. It all runs on your device with pdf-lib and pdf.js, so your documents are never uploaded to a server — and there is no account, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Merging, splitting, compressing, converting and signing all happen in your browser — your files never leave your device.
How do I merge PDFs?
On the Merge tab, add your PDFs and images, use the ▲ ▼ arrows to put them in order, then click Merge & download.
How do I turn JPG photos into a PDF?
On the Merge tab, add the pictures — JPG, PNG or WebP. Each picture becomes one page. Put them in order with the arrows and click Merge & download to get a single PDF.
How do I split a PDF or extract certain pages?
On the Split tab, load a PDF and click page thumbnails or type a range like 1-3, 5, then save as one PDF or separate files.
How do I compress a PDF to a specific size?
On the Compress tab, load a PDF, enter a target like 2 MB or 200 KB, and click Compress & download. Pages are re-rendered as images and the quality is tuned to fit — great for scans, though text becomes non-selectable.
How do I convert a PDF to Word?
On the To Word document tab, load a PDF and click Convert to Word. Paragraphs, headings, lists, simple tables and images are rebuilt as an editable .docx. Scanned pages come across as pictures (there's no OCR).
How do I add a signature to a PDF?
On the Sign tab, load a PDF, draw or upload your signature, drag it onto the page, resize it, and download the signed PDF.
Is there a limit on file size or the number of files?
There is no fixed limit, no daily quota and no watermark. Because the work is done by your own device, very large files are limited only by its memory — a phone will struggle sooner than a laptop.
Can I edit the text in a PDF?
Yes, in the PDF editor. It changes or adds text, highlights, draws, fills in forms, adds signatures, and rotates, reorders or deletes pages.
