Placing the signature
Once you press Use this signature (or choose an image), the signature appears on the page, low down in the middle. Click anywhere on the page to move it there, or drag it. The round handle at its corner makes it larger or smaller and keeps its proportions.
‹ Prev and Next › take you through the document. Each page remembers where you put the signature, so you can sign page 2 and page 7 in one go. Place on all pages copies the position and size from the page you are looking at to every page — the quick way to initial a whole contract. Download signed PDF saves the result as signed.pdf.
What kind of signature this is
This puts a picture of your handwritten signature on the page, the same result as printing the document, signing it with a pen and scanning it back in. Nothing else in the document changes, and its text stays selectable.
It is not a certificate-based digital signature — the kind made with a digital signature certificate (DSC), an eSign service or a digital ID — which locks the document and proves who signed it. If the person you are sending the document to asks for that, this is not the tool for it. For most everyday paperwork a handwritten signature on the page is what is expected, but what counts as acceptable is decided by whoever receives the document.
Things to know
- One signature at a time. The same signature is used on every page you place it on. To add a second person's signature, download the signed file and open it again.
- Nothing is remembered. Your signature is not saved anywhere, so you draw or choose it again next time.
- Password-protected PDFs. Remove the password first.
- Need the date, your name or ticks in boxes too? Use the PDF editor, which adds text, today's date and ✓ marks, fills in form boxes, and also takes a typed signature.
