Three ways to get your signature in
| Way | How | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Draw it on screen | On the Draw tab, sign in the box with a finger, a stylus or the mouse. Clear starts again; Use this signature accepts it. | The background is see-through and the empty space around the strokes is trimmed off, so it sits neatly on a line. |
| Photograph your pen signature | Sign on plain white paper, take a photo, and choose it on the Upload image tab. | The paper comes with it as a white rectangle. Place it where the page is blank. |
| Use a saved signature image | Choose the PNG or JPG file on the Upload image tab. | A PNG with a transparent background looks the same as a signature written on the page. |
Making a clean photo of your signature
- Use a dark pen on unlined white paper.
- Photograph it in even light, straight from above, with no shadow across it.
- Crop the photo close to the signature before uploading, so the white rectangle is as small as possible.
Uploaded pictures are used as they are — the paper background is not removed. A JPG cannot have a see-through background at all. If the white rectangle would cover a printed line or other text, draw the signature on screen instead; a drawn signature is always see-through.
Signing a file that is not a PDF
The tool signs PDFs, so turn the document into a PDF first.
- A Word document: in Word choose File → Save As and pick PDF; in Google Docs choose File → Download → PDF document.
- A photo or scan of a form (JPG or PNG): turn it into a PDF with JPG to PDF, then sign that.
Size and position
Click on the page to put the signature there, drag it to adjust, and pull the round corner handle to change its size — the proportions are kept. A signature usually looks right at about the height of two lines of the document's text. To sign or initial every page in the same place, set it on one page and press Place on all pages. The step-by-step of placing and downloading is on the sign a PDF page.
