The Milkmaid's Dream
A cheerful milkmaid walked to market with a pail of fresh milk balanced on her head. As she walked, she began to daydream. 'I will sell this milk and buy lots of eggs,' she thought. 'The eggs will hatch into fluffy chicks. I will sell the chicks and buy a pretty new dress!' She smiled, imagining how grand she would look. 'Everyone will say hello, and I will toss my head — like THIS!' But as she tossed her head, the pail tipped over. Splish, splash — all the milk spilled onto the road! And with it, all her lovely dreams. Do not count your chicks before they hatch.
