Report Card Maker & Marks Register
Enter the marks one subject at a time. Totals, grades and ranks work themselves out, and the mark list, the result analysis and every student's report card are ready to print.
Grade is for areas marked A, B or C instead of marks, such as art or discipline. They print in their own box and never count in the total.
Add the subjects first, so each exam can have its maximum marks.
Add an exam
A grade starts at its lowest percentage and runs up to the next grade. Give the last grade 0% so every mark gets one.
Paste a column of marks from Excel
One mark on each line, in the same order as the students here. An empty line leaves that student's box empty.
Every mark is saved as you type. Enter or the arrow keys move to the next student.
Results appear once there are students, subjects and an exam.
Go to Setup
Top of the class
The analysis page has the class's pass percentage and average, each subject's average, highest, lowest and pass percentage, how many got each grade, the toppers and the students below the pass mark — the figures a head teacher usually asks for.
Report cards appear once there are students, subjects and an exam.
Go to Setup
Exams on the card (up to four, side by side)
One A4 page for each student. Share this card opens the phone's share sheet with the card's PDF, so it can go to that student's parent on WhatsApp.
Fill attendance from the Attendance Register
Leave a date empty to count from the first or up to the last marked day. Late counts as present and a half day as ½, the same as the register.
To fill attendance from the Attendance Register,
Remarks and attendance belong to the last exam on the card, so the next term's card starts fresh while this term's stay saved.
Your classes and marks are kept in this browser on this device and never uploaded. Save a backup file now and then — clearing the browser's data, or changing phones, would lose them otherwise.
Setting up a class
Type the school, the class and division, your name and the academic year once; they print at the top of every card and mark list. If you already keep the class in the Class Attendance Register on this device, Copy a class from the Attendance Register brings the details and the names across, and later fills in attendance on the report cards. The register itself is never changed. Then, on the Setup tab:
- Students — paste the names one on each line. A roll number in front is kept (
12 Arjun Kor12. Arjun K); a line without one gets the next number. - Subjects — type them, or tap + The usual six subjects and rename any to suit the class. A subject set to Grade is marked with a letter instead of marks: art, work education, health and physical education or discipline. Grade subjects print in their own box on the card and never count in the total.
- Exams — tap a name such as + First Term or type your own. Each exam keeps its own maximum marks for every subject, so a unit test can be out of 25 and the term exam out of 100, or Mathematics out of 80 while English is out of 100. Same for every subject sets them all at once. Leave a box empty for a subject that is not in that exam.
- Grades and pass mark — choose the grading scale and the pass mark in each subject.
Up to 40 classes can be kept, each with up to 200 students, 20 subjects and 12 exams.
Entering marks
The Marks tab shows one subject at a time, with a box beside every student, which is how marks usually arrive — one corrected bundle of papers at a time. The grade appears beside each mark as you type it, in red when it is below the pass mark, and the count on each subject button shows how many are done. Enter moves to the next student. Besides a number, a box takes:
- AB — absent from the exam. It counts as 0 out of the maximum and as below the pass mark.
- – (a dash) — the student does not take this subject, such as the other second language. The subject is left out of that student's total and maximum, so their percentage is fair.
- Half marks such as
45.5. A mark above the subject's maximum is refused, with the reason under the box.
If the marks are already in a spreadsheet, copy the column and use Paste a column of marks from Excel: the marks fill the boxes top to bottom in the same order as the students, and an empty line leaves a box empty.
How totals, grades and ranks are worked out
Each subject's percentage is its mark out of that subject's maximum, and its grade comes from that percentage. The total adds every subject marked with numbers, and the student's percentage is the total out of the maximums of the subjects they took. The scales:
| Scale | Grades | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE | A1 91–100, A2 81–90, B1 71–80, B2 61–70, C1 51–60, C2 41–50, D 33–40, E below 33 | 33% |
| Kerala | A+ 90–100, A 80–89, B+ 70–79, B 60–69, C+ 50–59, C 40–49, D+ 30–39, D 20–29, E below 20 | 30% |
| Simple | A 80–100, B 60–79, C 45–59, D 33–44, E below 33 | 33% |
| Your school's own | Any grades, each starting at the percentage you give | Your choice |
A grade starts at its lowest figure, so with the CBSE scale 91% and above is A1 and 90.5% is A2. For example, Meera's First Term marks, each subject out of 50, are English 46, Hindi 41, Mathematics 45.5, Science 38 and Social Science 44. Mathematics is 91%, an A1; Science is 76%, a B1. Her total is 214.5 out of 250, which is 85.8% — an A2 overall.
A student passes when every subject reaches the pass mark. Ranks go by percentage, which is the same as by total when everyone takes the same subjects. Students with the same percentage share a rank and the next rank is skipped — two students on 85.8% are both 2nd, and the next is 4th. A student with any box still empty gets no overall grade or rank until it is filled in, so a missing paper never quietly pulls a rank down.
The mark list and the result analysis
The Results tab shows the whole class for an exam: every mark, the total, percentage, grade, rank and Pass or Fail, in roll order or by rank. Share mark list PDF makes an A4 sideways mark list with the subject averages, highest marks and pass counts along the bottom; Download for Excel saves the same figures as a CSV file.
The result analysis is one A4 page for the head teacher: the number on roll, how many passed, the pass percentage and the class average; for each subject the number who wrote it, the absentees, the average, highest and lowest marks and the pass percentage; how many got each grade; the top three; and the students below the pass mark with the subjects they need help in.
Report cards
On the Report cards tab, tick the exams the card should show — up to four, such as First Term and Annual Exam. Each exam gets a column of marks and grades, and with two or more an Overall column adds them up: if First Term is 214.5 out of 250 and the Annual Exam 432 out of 500, the overall is 646.5 out of 750, which is 86.2%. With several exams the result line and the overall rank follow the Overall column. Rank is left off the card unless you tick it, because many schools no longer print one.
Under the card, each student has boxes for days present, working days and the class teacher's remarks. Remark ideas offers ready sentences to tap — including one naming the subjects the student is below the pass mark in — and you can change every word. For a class copied from the Attendance Register, Fill in counts each student's attendance between two dates the way the register does: late counts as present and a half day as ½. A student with 17 days present, 1 late, 1 half day and 1 absent shows 18.5 of 20 working days (93%). Attendance and remarks are saved with the last exam on the card, so next term's cards start fresh.
All cards — PDF makes one A4 page for every student, with the grading key and lines for the class teacher, the parent and the principal to sign. Share this card sends a single student's card, for example to the parent on WhatsApp.
Keeping the data safe
Everything is saved in this browser on this device and nothing is uploaded; the PDFs and the Excel file are made on the device. When names are typed in an Indian script, the page fetches a matching font from Google Fonts the first time, so the cards print them correctly. Clearing the browser's data or changing devices loses what is saved, so use Save backup file now and then and keep the file in Drive or email. Open backup file on another device puts everything back — it replaces what is there.
This is a marks register and report card maker for a class teacher. Type the students, subjects and exams once, enter each subject's marks as the papers are corrected, and the totals, percentages, grades and ranks follow. The mark list and result analysis go to the head teacher as PDFs, and every student gets a one-page progress report with attendance and remarks. Nothing you type leaves your device unless you send it yourself.
Which grading scales are there?
CBSE (A1 91–100, A2 81–90, B1 71–80, B2 61–70, C1 51–60, C2 41–50, D 33–40, E below 33), Kerala (A+ 90–100, A 80–89, B+ 70–79, B 60–69, C+ 50–59, C 40–49, D+ 30–39, D 20–29, E below 20), a simple A to E scale, no grades at all, or your school's own grades. The pass mark in each subject can be changed too.
How do I enter a student who was absent for the exam?
Type AB. It counts as 0 and as below the pass mark. Type a dash (–) for a student who does not take that subject, such as the other second language; the subject is then left out of that student's total and maximum.
Can a report card show more than one exam?
Yes. Tick up to four exams, such as First Term and Annual Exam. The card shows each exam's marks and grade side by side, and an Overall column adds them up.
Why does a student have no rank?
A student is ranked only when every subject in the exam has a mark, AB or a dash. Fill in the missing box and the rank appears. Students with the same percentage share a rank.
Can attendance come from the Class Attendance Register?
Yes. If you keep attendance in the Class Attendance Register on the same device, copy the class from it. The Report cards tab can then fill in each student's days present and working days for the dates you choose.
Is the students' information private?
Yes. The names and marks are saved only in this browser on this device. Nothing is uploaded to a server; the PDFs are made on the device.
