How to make a certificate

- Enter the organisation issuing it and the recipient's name, exactly as it should appear.
- Write the description — the line that says what the certificate is for.
- Add the date and one or two signatories with their titles. Switch the medallion seal on or off and pick a design colour.
- Check the live preview and tap Download certificate PDF.
Which type to use
| Type | Give it when |
|---|---|
| Participation | Someone took part, whatever the result — a sports day, a workshop, a quiz |
| Completion | A course, training programme or internship was finished |
| Achievement | A specific goal or standard was reached |
| Excellence or Award | Someone ranked first or stood out among others |
| Appreciation | You are thanking a volunteer, speaker, sponsor or long-serving colleague |
Writing the description line
The description is what makes a certificate worth keeping. Say what the person did, in which event, and when. Compare “for participation” with “for taking part in the Inter-School Science Exhibition, held on 12 August 2026”. Useful openings:
- “for successfully completing the 40-hour course in …”
- “for securing first place in …”
- “in recognition of five years of dedicated service to …”
- “with thanks for the generous support of …”
Check the spelling of the name against a register or ID. A misspelt name is the commonest reason a certificate has to be reissued.
Printing it well
- Paper. The PDF is landscape A4. Thick paper or thin card of about 200 to 250 gsm feels like a certificate; ordinary 80 gsm office paper does not. Matte or ivory stock looks better than gloss and takes a pen signature.
- Print settings. Choose landscape and “Actual size” or 100%. On US Letter paper choose “Fit” so that the border is not cut off.
- Signatures. Leave the signature lines to be signed by hand in ink after printing. A real signature and an organisation stamp are what people look for.
- Many recipients. Change only the name and download again for each person; the other details stay as you left them.
Use it for genuine certificates only
This tool is for organisations, teachers, trainers and clubs issuing their own certificates. Do not use it to create a certificate in the name of an institution you do not represent. For employment documents, see the Experience & Salary Certificate maker.
