The UK fluid ounce is smaller
The imperial fluid ounce used in Britain is 28.41 ml, about 4% smaller than the US one. Oddly, the imperial pint is larger, because it holds 20 fluid ounces where the US pint holds 16: a UK pint is 568 ml and a US pint is 473 ml. For a British recipe, divide millilitres by 28.41 instead.
Fluid ounces are not ounces of weight
