Lorem Ipsum & Dummy Data
Placeholder text and fake test data — names, emails, addresses. Export CSV or JSON.
How to generate placeholder text and test data
The tool has two tabs.
- Lorem ipsum — choose how many paragraphs, sentences or words you want and tap Generate. Tick the box to begin with the familiar “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet”.
- Test data — tick the fields you need (full name, email, phone, address, city, company, UUID), set the number of rows, choose CSV or JSON, and tap Generate. Copy the result or download it as a file.
Where lorem ipsum comes from
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin taken from a work on ethics by Cicero, De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC. It became the standard filler of the printing trade and reached everyone else in the 1960s through Letraset transfer sheets and later through desktop publishing software.
It is used because it is not readable. Real sentences pull the eye into the meaning; filler with a natural mix of word lengths lets a client or designer judge the typeface, spacing and layout instead. Replace it before anything goes live — stray lorem ipsum on a published page is a classic mistake.
CSV or JSON?
| Format | Choose it for |
|---|---|
| CSV | Opening in Excel or Google Sheets, importing into a database table, bulk upload forms |
| JSON | Mocking an API response, seeding a front-end app, fixtures for automated tests |
To switch between the two later, use the JSON ⇄ CSV Converter.
What test data is for
- Filling a design so that a table or list is judged with realistic lengths rather than “Test Test”.
- Seeding a development database so that search, sorting and pagination have something to work on.
- Checking limits — how a screen copes with 500 rows, a long name, or a long address.
- Demos and screenshots that must not show real customers.
Using it safely
Every value is random and none belongs to a real person. Even so, treat the output as text only. Never send email or SMS to generated addresses and numbers: a random address can coincide with one that exists, so switch off outgoing messages in any system you load this data into.
The reverse matters more. Copying real customer records into a test system is how personal data leaks, and privacy laws such as the GDPR and India's DPDP Act apply to it. Generated data is the safe substitute.
The UUID field gives each row a random version-4 identifier, which is convenient as a primary key. To make identifiers on their own, use the UUID Generator.
Generate lorem ipsum placeholder text for mockups, or fake test data — names, emails, phone numbers, addresses and more — and export it as CSV or JSON for seeding a database or testing a form. Everything is generated in your browser.
Is the test data real?
No — it is randomly generated and does not represent real people, emails or accounts.
Can I export to CSV or JSON?
Yes. Pick the format and copy it or download the file.
